Autogenic Training

This class will be held via Zoom or Skype!

Autogenic training (AT) is a little-known relaxation technique that’s effective for a variety of stress-related conditions. AT engages mind and body in deep relaxation, reversing the stress response. The resulting altered state of consciousness allows spontaneous, often subtle, psychological and physiological changes – known as the autogenic process, which is a unique self-balancing experience for each person.

Autogenic Training is a safe, simple drug-free technique to help you:

  1. reduce or manage recurring stress-related symptoms e.g. sleep problems, anxiety, mild depression, fatigue, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), high blood pressure, chronic pain
  2. increase your general confidence and well-being,
  3. increase your energy and creativity,
  4. improve your performance in sport, music, theatre, classroom, boardroom,
  5. reduce the likelihood of serious illness in the future, and
  6. naturally support your innate healing mechanisms.

What do I do to learn Autogenic Training?
You can practice AT almost anywhere – in any ordinary chair or lying down. You don’t need special clothes or equipment and you can practice in your home or in a busy office, airport or train.

The course consists of

  • Initial consultation with a qualified Autogenic Therapist
  • 8-10 weekly sessions (individual or small group)

Between weekly classes, you’ll be asked to do three short practice sessions each day. These only take a few minutes and help mind and body focus on the relaxation response. You’ll also be asked to keep a brief diary throughout the course so you can discuss your AT experience with your therapist and any necessary adjustment to the exercises can be made.

What’s the end result?

Autogenic Training is not about striving for results. By the end of the course you will have learned how to take your body to a point of deep relaxation whenever you choose. Continued practice has been shown to benefit health and well-being.

What others have said…

‘AT has changed my life and it is a part of my day to day routine. I also feel very empowered as I feel AT belongs to m. That is, I don’t need to rely on relaxation CDs, therapists or anything external.’ (KH)

‘As a man I often forget to look after myself. AT helps me take time out. I’m able to detach from my problems, get a different perspective on life. It helps me stay confident and positive too.’  (DC)

“Since learning AT I feel so much more relaxed. It has really helped me sleep too.”   (CC)
